Unlikely Sources of Inspiration…
I have taken thousands of pictures for design inspiration!
Here are some from the “Geometric /Manmade ” category.
From top left: Wire basket, Shadow from a garden chair, Shadow of wrought iron gate and chicken wire against foliage
From top left: Wire fence against corrugated iron, manhole cover, chicken wire.
At home, inspiration is always where I least expect it. This board features a series of pics I took with my i phone whilst washing up. All mundane tasks deserve a splash of colour!
Perhaps this was the catalyst for my bright tea towel prints?
Here are a selection of pictures I took on a recent visit to India. When I design print & pattern here in the UK, I like to look at the elements of nature at work, for example light, texture, shadows and reflection. The photos below however, confirm that my bright colour palette is inherited from the motherland!
Marigold Decorations
Edge of the Meadow makes sense of two very different cultures working together in harmony.
Autumn is one of my favourite times of year. After a long summer of never ending green the elements start to change rapidly in a short space of time. Clear air, and intense light, bring out striking contrasts and we can enjoy deep shades of reds, orange and yellow.
Beautiful objects fall to the ground, not forgotten and happy to be found!

A selection of pics from my summer holiday in Northumberland.
I love….
The randomness of spacing in little barnacles,
Springy matt clusters of moss on slippery rock surfaces,
Bright fishing gear against the dark North Sea,
Enticing rock pools in clear crisp light,
Seals whiskers at the Farne Islands!
The strength of a silhouette against a raging sky,
Elements making their mark on rock surfaces.
Celebrating Digital Print Design
Digital print design is the perfect media for capturing magical realism.
The images below are Habotai silk swatches inspired by everyday objects photographed at home and whilst on holiday in Northumberland and Cornwall. When you look at something ordinary for long enough you may start to see it in a “different light”
Love to see geometric patterns and organic forms working together in harmony.
If you like these you will be in for a treat with our Autumn / Winter collection of scarves launching in September 2015

Exploring the rocky shoreline below Dunstanburgh Castle near Embleton Beach Northumberland.
The Light here is magnificently bright in the Summer months and brings out the clarity , colour and texture in these beautiful rocks
I could sketch and paint here for the rest of my life.
An artists haven.
